Tribune News NetworkDohaQatar witnessed a significant rise in the issuance of new driver licences in September as compared to August, according to new figures released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA).The number of new driver licences increased by 58 percent in September as compared to the previous month. Similarly, vehicle sales also soared as the number of new vehicles registered in September increased by 35.6 percent over August.A total of 6,191 new vehicles were registered in September, an annual increase of 4.6 percent.Traffic violations increased by 6.1 percent in September as against August, with over-speeding (Radar) violations topping the list.As many as 101,000 radar violations were recorded in September, an increase 8.1 percent over August. According to the report, a total of 459 accidents were registered in September, an increase of 13.6 percent over the previous month and a decrease of 15 percent over the same month last year. Light injuries accounted for the vast majority of traffic accident cases, at 87 percent, followed by severe injuries by 11 percent. As for the deaths, there were 10 deaths, which equates to only 2 percent of the total traffic accident cases.Electricity consumption reached 4,988.9 gigawatt hours, registering a monthly decrease of 7.6 percent and an annual decrease of 1.3 percent. While the total water consumption reached 59,695.7 thousand cubic meters during the same month, a monthly decrease of 4.6 percent, while it recorded an annual increase of 2.8 percent.
