The Embassy of Nepal confirmed on Wednesday the appointment of HE Ramesh Prasad Koirala as the new Ambassador of Nepal to Qatar.
The appointment has been widely welcomed by members and leaders of the Nepalese community in Qatar.
The new ambassador presented a copy of his credentials to Minister of State for Foreign Affairs HE Sultan bin Saad al Muraikhi in Doha on Wednesday.
The members of the second largest community of expatriates living in Qatar have expressed their happiness over the appointment of the new ambassador hoping that this would boost their expectations in terms of addressing the issues related to the community as a whole.
The ambassador's post had been lying vacant for the past several years after the previous ambassador had to be recalled by the Nepalese government in September 2013.
Talking about their expectations from the new ambassador, some of the prominent leaders of the Nepalese social and cultural organisations expressed their happiness over this much-awaited appointment.
President of the Non Resident Nepali - National Coordination Council Qatar Binesh Tamang told Qatar Tribune,"We are extremely happy over the appointment of the Nepalese Ambassador to Qatar."
"We have high expectations from our ambassador. We feel that he will address issues related to labour welfare with the Qatari counterpart and seek cooperation from the Qatari government in effective implementation of the labour reforms," he added.Chairman of Overseas Nepalese Forum Ram Hari Gairhe also expressed his happiness over the appointment of the new ambassador.
œWith the new ambassador taking over we hope that the Qatar-Nepal relations will reach a new high and cooperation in the field of economic investments, labour and tourism will get impetus, ? Gairhe said.
He added, œWe hope that the second largest expatriate community in Qatar will get its first Nepalese school with the efforts of the new ambassador. And a long drawn request for establishing a Nepalese Cultural Centre will also become a reality. We are looking forward to an early meeting with the ambassador to discuss all such issues related to our community. ?
President of Nepali Women's Association Sushmita Ghoshal also welcomed the appointment of the new ambassador and said it would definitely benefit the community working in Qatar.
œNow, we have somebody who can address our concerns about the welfare of our community, ?
Ghoshal added.
