Minister of Social Development and Family HE Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Masnad on Tuesday inaugurated the ‘Qatar Conference and Exhibition on Social Responsibility’ (Qatar CSR Summit 2023), being hosted by Qatar University under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.
The opening of the three-day summit was attended by Qatar University President Dr Hassan Al Derham, Ooredoo Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Ali bin Jaber Al Thani, QNB Group Chief Executive Officer Yousuf Mahmoud Al Naama and Chief Executive Officer of Qatar National Corporate Social Responsibility Programme Dr Saif Al Hajari, as well as a large number of audience, including participants from ministries, government agencies, embassies, supporting businesses, Qatar University’s administrative and academic personnel, businessmen and academics.
In her opening remarks, the minister said, “I am pleased to be present with a group of leaders in social responsibility development in Qatar and companies that have taken the initiative for many years to actually put the goals related to social responsibility into practice, forming an exemplary model for other institutions and organisations.”
She noted that in terms of priorities, social responsibility “occupies a prominent position among the wise government’s priorities and represents an important element that aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 pillars in the human, social, economic, and environmental dimensions.”
She added, “Achieving these goals requires commitment, cooperation and joint work to attain sustainable development and well-being for citizens and residents.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Derham said, “We consider social responsibility an integral part of our students’ educational journey, and we strive to enhance their awareness, develop their skills and make them more interested in social and environmental issues and have a broader understanding to find solutions to these problems.
“We encourage students to participate in conferences and events related to social responsibility to broaden their horizons and enhance their capabilities in effective communication with others and collaborative work to achieve common goals.”
In his remarks, Ooredoo CEO Sheikh Ali bin Jaber Al Thani reaffirmed that the company “strongly believes in the importance of social responsibility and sustainability and is committed to integrating these values into all our activities.”
He said, “We are committed to playing our role in building a sustainable future in Qatar and the world, and we are committed to supporting national events like the Qatar Conference and Exhibition on Social Responsibility.”
On his part, Naama said, “We are pleased to be the official sponsor of the Qatar Conference and Exhibition on Social Responsibility as it strongly reflects our vision to provide long-term value and emphasise our continuous efforts to support various social responsibility initiatives.”
The event also included the recognition of the Social Responsibility Personality of the Year in Qatar, which this year was awarded to Yousuf Ahmed Al Kuwari, CEO of Qatar Charity, in appreciation of his and Qatar Charity’s continuous efforts in the fields of relief and community development.
The Minister of Social Development and Family, accompanied by Dr Derham and Dr Hajari, presented the honourary shield to Kuwari.
The minister also honoured Ooredoo and Seashore groups for their contribution to supporting the ministry’s programmes for community service and development.
Sheikh Ali received an honourary shield from the minister in recognition of Ooredoo’s sponsorship of the Elderly Appreciation Ceremony held during the Holy Month of Ramadan. Salem Saeed Al Mahandi, CEO of Seashore Group, received an honourary shield from the minister in appreciation of the group’s role in supporting sustainable development goals and its collaboration with the ministry to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030.
