THE Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Monday inaugurated Umm Bab Coastal Center in the Western District of the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security, which will help strengthen security control over coastal and maritime borders as well as boost efficiency of search and rescue operations.
Director-General of Public Security HE Staff Major-General Saad bin Jassim al Khulaifi opened the centre in the presence of a number of MoI officials.
The facility comprises a centre for homeland security system, administrative offices, a seaport capable of absorbing maritime media and patrols, coastal patrol cars and a maintenance workshop.
Major-General Khulaifi said the centre is one of the most modern and vital due to its geographical location and the area it serves.
The centre is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and marine boats that enable it to perform tasks efficiently. With its opening, the radar network for coast and border security, known as the local network of the national shield network, has been completed, Major-General Khulaifi said.
"The Western District will have great effectiveness in performing all maritime tasks, search and rescue operations and coastal control to ensure the safety of sea passengers with its qualified and trained cadres," he added.
Director-General of the General Directorate of Coast and Border Security Staff Brig (Navy) Ali Ahmed Saif al Badeed said the opening of the centre completes a series of measures sponsored by the MoI as part its many vital projects aimed at ensuring security of citizens and residents. He added that Umm Bab Center will be the main centre for the management of the Western District, which comprises a number of observation posts to strengthen security control over the country's maritime and coastal borders.
Director of the Western District Administration Maj Abdullah Saleh Malhieh said the Umm Bab Center is one of the most modern facilities of the General Directorate of Coast and Border Security to keep pace with the development and modernisation.
He explained that the Center is equipped with the latest surveillance, follow-up and tracking systems, through the installation of a comprehensive integrated radar system and surveillance cameras that are connected to the national shield system.
The center has an ultra-modern communications system to deal with and follow up the search and rescue operations. It is also equipped with high-speed boats with modern positioning systems to impose security control.
A documentary film was screened during the ceremony showcasing the readiness of the General Directorate of Coast and Border Security in carrying out maritime tasks and its modern technical capabilities, in addition to the speedboats used in search and rescue operations, security surveillance and protection of the territorial waters of the State.
