From earning and saving to budgeting and investing, the Overseas Filipino Investors and Entrepreneurs Movement (OFIEM), conducted some age-specific financial literacy activities for Filipino kids, teens and young adults to learn essential life skills at an early age.
When it comes to financial learning, OFIEM believes that it’s never too early or too late to start. Thus, the organisation encouraged parents to give children a valuable head start on financial independence with its engaging board games.
The group shared the success of its recently held Financial Literacy for Kids and Teens Workshop at Tower 18, Porto Arabia in The Pearl.
The younger generation enjoyed an educational and entertaining experience where they learned financial literacy, budgeting, and smart decision-making. They also embarked on an exciting journey of learning the basics of money management through the captivating board games ‘My Allowance’ and ‘Cashflow’.
To ensure tailored experiences, the participants were categorised into three groups based on age. Group A, consisting of 4 to 8-year-olds, Group B, comprising 9 to 12-year-olds, and Group C, aged 13 to 19.
Both Groups A and B had a wonderful time playing the ‘My Allowance’ board game, designed to instill money management skills from an early age. Group C, on the other hand, experienced the thrilling ‘Cashflow’ board game, gaining invaluable insights into financial decision-making.
The kids, teens, and their parents were ecstatic about the games and the learning experience.
OFIEM highlighted the importance of teaching financial literacy to the next generation from a young age. For them, children and youth need to learn how to responsibly manage their future finances. This is the idea behind this special event, where kids and teens grasped basic financial concepts through the fun activity of playing financial board games.
The participants gained valuable learning opportunities like discovering how to manage their resources, finding strategic solutions, and making smart decisions when it comes to their allowances and financial challenges. They also had a chance to showcase their abilities, develop sportsmanship, and make new friends along the way.
OFIEM, headed by its President, Ms Ferlita You Ng, would also like to express its deepest appreciation to all the parents, kids, and teens who participated in the workshop, the facilitators who made this event possible, and to the entire OFIEM group for their unwavering support and dedication.
The event also ended successfully with the leadership of Edgar Boyano as OFIEM Board Director and Chair of the Media and Communications Committee.
Nurturing financially savvy minds for a brighter future, OFIEM encourages parents to invest in their children’s future success by giving them the tools they need to thrive financially.
