Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed the construction of Hamad Medical Corporation's (HMC) state-of-the-art Simulation Centre which will enable healthcare professionals to improve their skills in a real-life-like environment.
Designed by US architect Perkins and Will, the 13,000-square metre facility is purpose-built for the healthcare professionals to refine and advance their clinical techniques and learn valuable interactive skills for patient communication.
The four-storey facility will provide controlled and supportive environment that imitates real life patient-care scenarios and the training will create specific learning opportunities in areas such as communication and teamwork.
Clinicians will also be able to use the latest computer software and other devices to practise diagnostic and surgical techniques within realistic patient-care setting.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune during a tour of the facilities, one of the officials said,"All the medical gadgets in the facility is real and comply with British standards. We are trying to replicate as much as possible it's really like in a hospital. We have real medical equipment, surgical lights, among others."
According to the official, the construction of the building started in 2014 and was completed in 2017."The idea is to enable the staff of HMC and students to learn new procedures and practise new skills."
The world-class facility has sixteen skills laboratories with a flexible training space where students can practise on manikins, ten examination rooms where students can practise with standardised patients, simulation facilities with four standardised patient rooms, two labour and delivery rooms, and operating rooms where manikins will be used for training.
The facility also hosts a surgical suite with 10 stations, a loading dock to simulate patient transportation through hospital to patient room, control rooms to monitor and control the activities in each of the medical areas, flexible classrooms and debriefing rooms where teachers and students will meet to review the trainings and tests, multipurpose educational spaces, lounges, a caf` and an outdoor caf`, among others. The facility has a 400-seat auditorium with interactive AV system as well.
