Combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is a priority for Qatar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said at the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, held in Rome, Italy, on Monday.

He said Qatar has made significant contributions at the regional and international levels and that the country would remain a strategic partner for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.
Qatar provided aid to the Syrian people with a value of more than 1.6 billion dollars, and committed to providing a package of loans and investments in infrastructure and reconstruction projects to build Iraq worth one billion dollars, which was announced at the Kuwait International Conference for Reconstruction and Development in Iraq in 2018.
As part of efforts to achieve stability in Iraq, the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has launched several development and stabilization projects in Iraq in coordination with international organizations and United Nations agencies, including in the areas of food security and health care.
Qatar is a strategic partner of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, and is an active member of all coalition working groups: Counter-Finance, Stability, Foreign Terrorist Fighters, Communications. It provided significant support to facilitate US military operations in the region.
In December 2018, the State of Qatar signed an agreement with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) to establish a United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism in Doha, and provided $75 million to support its general strategy. Subsequently, in March 2019, Qatar and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism held their first strategic dialogue at United Nations Headquarters.
In addition to working with coalition partners, Qatar co-sponsored UN Security Council Resolution 2396 on the return and transfer of foreign terrorist fighters; supported the work of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism in implementing the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy; It has partnered with the office to launch an international center in Doha to combat violent extremism through behavioral change.
In addition to military and diplomatic efforts, Qatar is committed to supporting building resilient societies and supporting educational and development initiatives. By providing humanitarian aid, supporting education and economic development initiatives, and building more resilient societies, Qatar aims to contribute to enhancing security, stability and prosperity in the region.
Qatar believes in a comprehensive approach to addressing the root causes of terrorism based on education, employment and development projects. The core of Qatar's counter-terrorism strategy is focused investment in education and youth empowerment.
To encourage economic empowerment in the Middle East and North Africa, Qatar supports Silatech, which since 2008 has provided one million jobs for youth in 17 countries, and seeks to provide 5 million jobs by the end of 2020.
