Wellness Day will be celebrated across Qatar on June 10 with a slew of activities lined up by different hotels, associations and schools as part of the grand celebration.

Global Wellness Day is an entirely not-for-profit day, a social platform dedicated to healthy living and this year’s celebration centres around the theme ‘Dance Magenta’ with people reminded of the healing power of dance.

“This day is basically about getting people to join in different activities for well-being. The best thing about Wellness Day is that all activities, held in different locations, are made complementary and accessible to all those who want to join. The participation of different organisations gives us more exciting activities to try out such as Dragon Boat, Meditations, Underwater Diving, and many more!” said Asela Jayaweera, Director of Recreation at Sharq Village & Spa, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

Asela, who is the Global Ambassador of the Wellness day said that although the theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Dance Magenta’, the festivities in Qatar will revolve around a host of activities, not just dancing.

Hosts of schools are joining this event with school students actively taking part in the activities.

“There are schools joining us this year, which promote healthy and wellness activities for kids. We have International Schools and sports organisations such as ‘Paddy Boat Divers Association’ and Triathlete Associations taking part in this momentous event. This gives the opportunity for the general public to participate in things that they would not be able to do on a normal day,” informed Asela, who is a recipient of the J. Willard Marriott Award of Excellence.

The event will be held in multiple locations and some events will be held prior to June 10, 2023. Further details will be announced in the upcoming days.

“Although the actual celebration is on the 10th of June, some of the activities are going to happen before the day. The different schools will have it on different days as part of their regular activities. But to celebrate the Wellness Day activities, the associations like the Dragon Boat, will have it on the 10th of June on Katara Beach and Paddy Diving at Sealine Beach.”

“The five-star hotels will be hosting it in their properties. All the classes on that day at participating venues will be free for the public. The Marriott group is joining as Marriott Business Council. So most Marriott properties will have free classes and things to try out for the public. Activities like yoga, meditation, Zumba classes, and many more are free of charge,” added Jayaweera.

“Paddy Boat Ambassador, Khalid Zaki, will be coordinating the persons who want to dive in the Sealine area for the diving activities on the day and the Dragon races will start from 4:00 pm at Katara. Other activities for Marriott will be out soon and people will be able to register via a registration link,” added Jayaweera.
