The Volunteering and Local Development Division of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has distributed 500 hygiene kits to the workers at the new bus station construction project in Al Wakra, while observing all applicable preventive measures.Done in coordination with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), this activity is part of Stand Together, a welfare program for expatriate workers in Qatar, with the objectives of improving their health awareness, enhancing their social integration, and encouraging them to practice hygiene, especially during the summer and amid the current COVID-19 risks.Mooza Mohammed Al-Kuwari, Head of Community Development at QRCS, commended the established partnership with Ashghal in worker assistance programs.“The humanitarian projects of QRCS seek to promote a spirit of social solidarity, take care of those contributing to the construction of the country, and show gratitude for their great dedication,” said Ms. Al-Kuwari. “This initiative is a shared gesture from QRCS and Ashghal to urge the workers to pay attention to hygiene and cleanliness, which would pay off for themselves and society at large”.She added, “Expatriate workers are a top priority on our local development agenda. As things are getting back to normal here in Qatar, everyone is required to continue to follow the Coronavirus preventive measures. Even though restrictions are being eased, it is still an emergency. We have to raise hygiene awareness among the public, as a major protection against many diseases, particularly in the summertime”.Hanadi Hassan Al-Moualem, Humanitarian Services Fund Program Coordinator, said this initiative was inspired by QRCS’s values of social responsibility and communication with NGOs and vulnerable groups, which would have far-reaching health and humanitarian impacts.“It is one of a series of year-round services offered by QRCS’s Stand Together program to expatriate workers,” she explained.Stand Together is a social development program aimed at ensuring the welfare of expatriate workers in Qatar, changing their lifestyles, and helping them to better integrate into the local community, through a wide range of assistance, such as health education, food aid, and hygiene kits.
