Nasser Al Khelaifi, beIN MEDIA GROUP Chairman, European Club Association (ECA) Chairman, and President of Paris Saint-Germain, has reaffirmed his commitment to African football after watching Egypt’s Al Ahly leave it late to beat Morocco’s Wydad 3-2 on aggregate and secure a record 11th CAF Champions League title at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca on Sunday night.

In an exclusive interview with beIN SPORTS, Al Khelaifi commended the performance of Africa’s two top teams and reiterated the need of providing them with the resources required to further grow. Al Khelaifi urged viewers not to underestimate the level of football on the continent, which has long been known for its talented players and exciting, unpredictable matches.

“We reaffirm our commitment to giving African football the necessary support to reach its potential by enabling it to develop its talents and providing it with the necessary resources,” he said, adding that football is not only about winning championships, but also about elevating humanity on a global scale.

“Today, we continue to lay plans that go beyond the role of football for the advancement of all societies around the world. During the last ECA General Assembly, we only scratched the surface of what the ECA is capable of accomplishing, and we look forward to the next chapter.

“The ECA of the future will have an influence not just in Europe, but also throughout the rest of the world, including in Africa.”

Al Khelaifi thanked Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, and the people of Morocco in general for their hospitality, adding that the fervorous crowd had left him immensely impressed.
