THE Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) started a campaign encouraging citizens and residents of Qatar to support local products, and the Arabic hashtag 'I support Qatari products' has been trending in Qatar on Twitter where people expressed their pride in the local companies showing their support for the initiative.
Following Saudi Arabia's decision to cut ties and export of food products to Qatar, some tweets from Qatari nationals and expatriates viewed the situation as an opportunity to support local products and some of them said that the local companies have witnessed an unprecedented rise of popular demand.
The tweets under the hashtag raised awareness of the numerous Qatari companies including Ghadeer, Dandi, Al Maha, Raouaa and Adhba that produce a variety of products ranging from dairy products to poultry.
Tweets encouraged Qatar's residents to change their consumer habits and be aware of the many options available to them from the local market.
