In the wake of the current situation in the Gulf, Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) on Tuesday sent a circular to hotel establishments urging them to be mindful of the guests' needs and offer as much support as needed regardless of their nationality and country of origin.
The QTA also sent UNWTO Global Codes of Ethics for Tourism to all hotel establishments reminding them about the rights of guests.
"In line with our authentic Qatari culture, we urge you to extend a helping hand to tourists and visitors, regardless of their origin or nationality, so that all visitors to Qatar can experience the best of our nation's hospitality," a QTA statement said.
"In pursuit of excellence as we go through the current exceptional circumstances, we are certain that you will continue to adhere to professional standards of conduct when dealing with tourists and visitors, and ensuring that all their rights are protected."
QTA has urged the hotel establishments to provide whatever support is available to guests who need to change or cancel their reservations due to the ongoing situation.
"We are confident that you will continue to fulfil the role as ambassadors of Qatar and the traditional values of hospitality that our people are renowned for," said the circular.
The Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, article one (Tourism's contribution to mutual understanding and respect between peoples and societies) says that tourism activities should be conducted in harmony with the attributes and traditions of the host regions and countries and respect for their laws, practices and their customs.
The host communities on the other hand, and local professionals, should acquaint themselves with and respect the tourists who visit them and find out about their lifestyles, tastes and expectations; the education and training imparted to professionals contribute to a hospitable welcome.
It is also the task of the public authority to provide protection to tourists and visitors and their belongings; they must pay particular attention to the safety of foreign tourists in view of the particular vulnerability they may have.
