International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Qatar and Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry participates in the 13th World Chambers Congress (13th WCC), the world’s largest economic forum for chambers and businesses.
This year’s congress took place in Geneva, Switzerland, from the 21st to the 23rd of June, 2023. The 13th WCC was co-organised by the International Chamber of Commerce, ICC World Chambers Federation, and Geneva Chamber of Commerce, Industry andServices.
ICC Qatar and Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani headed the delegation that participated in the 13th WCC.
The 13th WCC programme was derived from the theme ‘Achieving peace and prosperity through multilateralism’ and was narrowed down to three main topics, ’multilateralism’, ‘innovation’ and‘sustainability’.
In parallel to the 13th WCC, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony took place where Sheikh Khalifa signed a memorandum of understanding with the President of the Argentina Chamber of Commerce Natalio Mario Grinman. The MoU is aimed at fostering the development and diversification of commercial exchanges and economic cooperation.
ICC Qatar convened, hosted, and chaired the last meeting towards the end of its 2nd term. The B-MENA RCG Meeting occurred on the sidelines of the 13th WCC, with 11 national committees (NCs) in attendance, Guest Speaker Roland Priborsky, Creator of IRON-GPT, and observers.
The meeting was an opportunity for NCs to address their ongoing operations, build cooperation, shed light on the progress of ICC projects, and for new topics to emerge. Fady Asly, chairman of ICC Georgia and ICC Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the Caucasus and Central Asia was elected as successor for the ICC Regional Coordinator role for the ICC B-MENA RCG.
Qatar Chamber Board Member Khalid Al Hajri met with a senior advisor to the president of the Uganda Chamber of Commerce D Bikhado Ofungi to design the path for increased cooperation between the Uganda Chamber of Commerce and Qatar Chamber, which will involve facilitating B2b engagements between both members of the chambers of commerce, driving foreign direct investments and economic cooperation. Best practices were exchanged during the meeting, and the meeting concluded with scheduling the next meeting.
