THE Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has signed three new contracts worth about QR815mn with different construction companies for the development of citizens' sub-divisions comprising 1,672 plots of land.
Ashghal president Dr Eng Saad bin Ahmed al Muhannadi signed the agreements with the representatives of contracting firms in Doha on Tuesday.
The signing ceremony was attended by President of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) Eng Essa bin Hilal al Kuwari, Assistant President of Ashghal Abdulla Hamad al Attiyah, Director of infrastructure Affairs at Ashghal Eng Mohammed Masoud al Marri, Manager of Road Projects Department at Ashghal Eng Sauod Ali al Tamimi and senior officials of Ashghal and Kahramaa.
Dr Muhannadi said:"The new contracts are part of Ashghal's efforts to provide facilities and infrastructure for citizens' sub-divisions through cooperation with Kahramaa and other authorities in the country. Ashghal is committed to the planned schedule for the completion of the infrastructure of citizens' sub-divisions. Ashghal will open tenders for infrastructure projects to develop 10,400 land plots over the next three years, which will be completed in five years."
The first two contracts included roads and infrastructure development projects in Al Froosh/Al Kharaitiyat, Rawdat Egdaim and Izghawa, and were awarded to Bin Omran Trading & Contracting Company at a value of QR265mn and QR243mn, respectively.
The third contract for the roads and development project in North of Al Nassiriya was awarded to the joint venture of 'Boom Construction Company' and 'Lotus Contracting Company' at a value of more than QR306mn.
The new projects will commence in July and are expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2019. The projects will provide infrastructure facilities such as roads, sewage network, street lights, electricity and water networks, and the infrastructure needed for the provision of communications networks.
Ashghal has been implementing two roads and infrastructure development projects for government residential divisions in Al Mashaf West and Al Wukair North. The two projects are worth over QR1.2bn and include 1,829 land plots.
Ninety-one percent of the Roads and Infrastructure Development project in Al Mashaf West has been completed. The project, which includes 1,886 land plots, will transform Al Mashaf West area into a sustainable residential area that can accommodate the future population growth. The project includes the construction of local roads network with a total length of 70-km and 13 signalised intersections, among other facilities.
The infrastructure project for citizens' sub-divisions in Al Wukair North is 76 percent complete so far. The project, which serves 643 land plots, includes the construction of 23-km of roads and eight signal-controlled intersections, in addition to other amenities.
Ashghal has recently completed two grading projects comprising 4,145 land plots. Grading work will commence soon in Smaisma, West Al Khor and Al Egda.
The projects are part of Ashghal's Local Areas Infrastructure Programme, which includes 13 projects for government residential divisions in different areas, comprising 10,400 land plots.
