NIGERIAN in Diaspora Organisation-Qatar (NIDO-Qatar) Acting President Michael Jonathan Asemota has urged Nigerian residents in Qatar to remain calm in light of the current blockade against Qatar by some GCC countries, stressing that"life is normal and stable in Qatar".
The official made the call during a meeting with some Nigerians visiting the Nigerian African community help desk at the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) in Doha. The Nigerian community help desk was the first sub-Saharan facility to open at the NHRC about a year ago.
"NIDO-Qatar stands with the State of Qatar and the Nigerian community wishes to express her regret on the blockade imposed on Qatar. We wish to express our sympathy and solidarity with the Qatari people, our amiable hosts, who have for years welcomed us with open arms. We pray that the issue at hand is resolved diplomatically in the shortest possible time," he said.
"Life is normal in Qatar as the government has conveyed that they will take all necessary steps to maintain normalcy. Supply of food items is also not affected. There is nothing happening in the region that suggests any threat to safety and security of residents in Qatar," he added.
The official further said that since the start of its operation, the help desk has resolved a number of complaints involving Sub-Saharan African communities.
