LONDON: The State of Qatar has ranked third in the Arab world in the Global AI Index issued by Tortoise Media.

The Global AI Index benchmarks nations on their level of investment, innovation, and implementation of artificial intelligence due to the fact that the artificial intelligence revolution will transform business, government, and society.

Tortoise Media said that the rise of ChatGPT and the ensuing arms race between big tech companies to develop their own generative AI models has led to a public debate about how best to manage the risks of this new technology.

The Global AI Index is based on seven sub-pillars: Talent, Infrastructure, Operating Environment, Research, Development, Government Strategy, and Commercial.

Tortoise Media is a global company that includes an advisory board and experts in artificial intelligence from around the world.

In the Index, the United States remains the undisputed leader, once again followed by China. This year, for the first time since 2019, the UK loses third place thanks to soaring Singapore. It moves to fourth, closely followed by Canada in fifth. Overall Qatar is placed 42 and third in the Arab world behind the UAE (28) and Saudi Arabia (31).

The Global AI Index aims to make sense of artificial intelligence in 62 countries that have chosen to invest in it. It’s the first-ever ranking of countries based on three pillars of analysis; investment, innovation, and implementation. This is the fourth iteration of the index.
