HAMAD Medical Corporation (HMC) has again been internationally recognised with the awarding of reaccreditation to its laboratory network following its success earlier this year in achieving corporate accreditation as an Academic Medical Center by the Joint Commission International (JCI).
Inspectors from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) recently carried out reaccreditation visits to HMC's Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP) facilities resulting in the reaccreditation success.
The achievement follows the accreditation of HMC's laboratory network in 2014, demonstrating how HMC is continuing to provide the high-quality international standard patient care to patients across Qatar.
Commenting on the DLMP's achievement in ensuring the successful accreditation of HMC's laboratory network, Minister of Public Health and Managing Director of HMC HE Dr Hanan Mohamed al Kuwari highlighted the achievement as another example of Qatar's continued success in the journey towards realising the National Vision 2030 of providing a world-class healthcare system through the delivery of high-quality, international standard patient care.
The minister said,"Our recent CAP reaccreditation success continues to demonstrate that we are continually striving to provide patients with a quality healthcare service which meets the highest international standards. High-quality diagnostics is the basis for quality diagnosis and treatment. CAP reaccreditation for HMC's laboratory network is another outstanding example of quality recognition for HMC and follows soon after its recent JCI accreditation success."
Dr Ajayeb al Nabet, chairperson of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at HMC, said:"HMC's CAP reaccreditation is a testimony to the continued dedication and quality of service provided by the DLMP team. Our pathologists, clinical scientists and technologists all work together to ensure that our patients receive the highest quality care, whether this is testing to confirm an illness, screening for diseases such as diabetes or testing to diagnose and monitor treatment for cancers.
"We strive to achieve the highest operating standards possible and as a result are very proud of our reaccreditation. Our patients can be assured they are receiving the best possible care aligned to the highest international standards."
CAP, an international leader in laboratory quality assurance, has accredited more than 7,600 laboratories in 50 countries. CAP certification demonstrates adherence to a high-standard of quality assurance and control as well as staff qualifications, facilities, safety programmes and overall management.
DLMP is the first integrated laboratory network in Qatar to have its laboratories accredited and now re-accredited by CAP. The prestigious body accredits clinical laboratories based on compliance with a rigorous set of over 3,000 standards. Its accreditation scheme is recognised as the gold standard for clinical laboratories around the world, with CAP accredited laboratories acknowledged as demonstrating excellence in patient care and adherence to best practice laboratory standards.
