Captain Mohammed Nasser Al Khalifa, Head of the Planning and Follow-Up Department at the Ministry of Interior, attributed Qatar’s lead in the global safety and security index to four reasons.

Captain Al Khalifa, in an interview with ‘Qatar TV’, pointed out that the four reasons for Qatar achieving the top rank are: Launching the strategy of the Ministry of Interior; low crime rate; COVID-19 pandemic, and FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 success.

Launch of MoI strategy

As for the launch of the strategy of the Ministry of Interior, Captain Al Khalifa said “Since the first phase in which the ministry started the planning with the National Strategy from 2008 to 2011, and then the launch of the first strategy from 2011 to 2016 and the second strategy from 2018 to 2022, the most important goals have been identified, through which plans for programmes and projects targeting each indicator needed by the ministry to deduce the required numbers.”

Low crime rates

As for the efforts made to achieve the best levels of security, combat crime and preserve lives and property, he said, “Qatar, with its indicators, has excelled in Arab and international indicators in reducing crime rates compared to the population.”

Combating COVID-19

He explained that during the last three years, Qatar went through important events, including the COVID-19 pandemic, during which Qatar succeeded, with the cooperation of all parties with the Crisis Management Committee, in overcoming this pandemic without imposing a partial or total ban, and this affects the indicators numbers.

World Cup success

Captain Al Khalifa said Qatar’s remarkable success for the 2022 World Cup in terms of good organization and tournament safety was another factor for Qatar’s superiority in global security indicators.
