The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA) has announced the end of ban on work performed in the open during the summer, which prohibits work between 10 am and 3.30 pm under the sun. The ban was in effect from June 1 to September 15.
The ministry, represented by the Labor Inspection Department, has carried out intensive inspection campaigns since the beginning of June to ensure that companies adhere to the specified times and take necessary precautions to protect workers from heat stress, which consisted of allocating shaded resting places that are easy for workers to access, and that are effective in protecting against radiation.
The field visits carried out by the Ministry’s inspectors at work sites from June 1 until September  15 September resulted in the detection violation by 338 companies, most of which work in the quarrying sector in various regions of the country. Protecting workers from the danger of heat stress, and legal measures have been taken in this regard.
The ministry urged business owners to continue spreading awareness and concern for occupational health and safety at work sites. The ministry also called on companies to create the work environment in a way that helps mitigate the risks of heat stress that workers may be exposed to, and to develop joint plans with companies and workers to assess the risks of heat stress, mitigate its effects and update them periodically, while providing training for all workers on dealing with heat stress.
