HE Sheikha al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums (QM), on Saturday welcomed French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, on a tour of the museum. Together, accompanied by a delegation that included Qatar Museums CEO Mansoor bin Ebrahim El Mahmoud, and the French Ambassador to Qatar, HE Eric Chevalier, they spent time exploring the museum's interior and exterior.
Commenting on the tour, HE Sheikha al Mayassa said:"It was a pleasure to welcome Mr Jean-Yves Le Drian today on a tour of the National Museum of Qatar. He was very complimentary and positive about the progress being made and congratulated the team on all that is being done to create this incredible space. The museum celebrates Qatar's proud identity and connects the country's history with its diverse and cosmopolitan present. Not only will it redefine the role of a cultural institution, but it also marks another major milestone in Qatar's development as an arts and cultural hub."
The National Museum is designed by world-renowned French architect Jean Nouvel. The museum tells the story of the people of Qatar, celebrating the country's rich heritage and history and reflecting Qatar's long-standing commitment to arts. It evokes the life of the Qatari people through the desert and the sea through architecture symbolising a desert rose.
The official opening date of the National Museum is slated to be December 2018. (TNN)
