City University College in partnership with Ulster University (CUC Ulster University), a premier provider of higher education in the Middle East, and GWC Logistics (GWC), the leading provider of logistics and supply chain solutions in the MENA region, have announced a strategic partnership that will expand opportunities for student internships and further workforce development in Qatar.
This exciting alliance will allow both Qatari and non-Qatari students from CUC Ulster to gain valuable, practical experience with GWC through internships. It will provide a hands-on understanding of the logistics industry’s functioning and expose students to real-world scenarios, complementing their classroom learning.
In addition, the partnership will bring forth a fantastic opportunity for GWC employees to advance their education with limited scholarships offered by CUC Ulster, spanning a range of UK-certified programmes from BTEC HND (Diplomas), BSc, BEng, and Masters Degrees.
Dr. Faris Gorashi, executive dean of CUC Ulster University had this to say about the programme: "GWC’s vision is perfectly aligned with CUC Ulster University’s vision. We are a forward-thinking university and we believe that the hard and soft skills that the students acquire through their internships are equivalent to the knowledge that they gain. We are starting from the beginning with our students to gain exposure in the job market and learn the soft skills necessary to become leaders. The cooperation between CUC Ulster University and GWC will have a tremendous effect, not only the development of the students themselves, but on the work sector as a whole.”
Another significant facet of this agreement involves the introduction of GWC to the Qatar Skills Training Centre (QSTC), a long-established leader in corporate training, and also a subsidiary of Artan Consulting and Education Services. QSTC will offer a wide variety of training and development services, further reinforcing the partnership’s commitment to employee growth and development.
In reciprocation, CUC Ulster will prominently feature GWC as one of its strategic partners, working together on a range of collaborative projects including research. This collaboration will also help spotlight GWC’s dedication to enhancing local talent and fostering a culture of learning and growth within its workforce.
"We think the GWC Internship programme will have a big impact on the students of CUC Ulster University, providing students with real life exposure to the workplace and specifically, world-class logistics. The essence of our partnership with CUC underscores GWC’s unwavering commitment to nurturing young talent and driving Qatar’s economic diversification,” remarked GWC’s Director of Human Resources, Hamad M. Abuqaba Al-Marri, Assoc CIPT, MBA.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in both organisations’ ongoing commitment to contributing to Qatar’s 2030 National Vision, emphasising human development as one of the four pillars of the vision.
