Qatar’s picturesque islands and the enchanting emerald sea offer a captivating natural wealth that beckons tourists and adventurers from around the world.

The Qatari sea boasts remarkable biological diversity, with their stunning natural coral formations providing a sanctuary to numerous marine organisms, making it a truly exquisite destination in the region.

For centuries, Qatar has been renowned for its alluring beaches and captivating blue waters. The country’s seas and islands offer visitors a chance to explore a rich world of marine diversity and distinct ecosystems.

With breathtaking landscapes and exciting activities like diving, swimming and kayaking, Qatar has become one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in the region.

Speaking to Qatar Tribune, experts emphasised that the Qatari sea and islands are unique and sustainable tourist attractions, cherished by the Qatari government, as the state is committed to protecting and preserving these natural treasures for future generations to enjoy.

They affirmed that the charm of the emerald sea and the picturesque islands of Qatar goes beyond just their natural beauty. These marine wonders also play a vital role in supporting local communities and their livelihoods as the abundance of marine life and resources provides a rich source of food and sustenance for coastal residents, fostering a deep connection between the people and the sea.

As Qatar strives for sustainable development, the preservation of these marine treasures has become a top priority for the government and the people alike.

The experts said collaborative efforts are being made to strike a balance between promoting tourism and safeguarding the delicate marine ecosystems, stressing that by embracing responsible tourism practices and raising awareness about the importance of conservation, Qatar aims to create a harmonious coexistence between visitors and the natural environment.

They opined that one of the remarkable aspects of Qatar’s approach to marine conservation is the emphasis on education and research. The country is investing in scientific studies to better understand the marine ecosystem and its response to environmental changes.

By gathering valuable data and insights, experts can make informed decisions to protect and preserve the emerald sea for future generations.

Salman Al Buainain, an expert in environment, asserted that Qatar’s waters boast unparalleled biodiversity and a diverse array of fish and colourful corals.

He stressed the importance of preserving this marine richness and safeguarding ecosystems to maintain the natural balance.

Preservation of marine life and coral reefs in the emerald sea, as Buainain pointed out, is not solely the responsibility of the government; it involves the active participation of society.

"Citizens and visitors can contribute through awareness raising, education about ocean preservation, volunteering in cleaning campaigns and supporting research programmes studying marine life and its environmental impacts,” he said.

Looking towards the future, Buainain emphasised the significance of achieving a natural balance in the emerald sea.

He sees it as a challenge, but also an opportunity for united action and cooperation to preserve this remarkable and diverse marine environment, ultimately building a better future for Qatar and the entire world.

He underscored that the international cooperation becomes essential in maintaining the natural balance of the emerald sea.

"Countries and environmental organisations must work together to develop plans for conserving oceans and marine resources. This includes joint strategies to combat marine pollution, sustainable fishing regulations and biodiversity preservation,” he stressed.

Buainain underlined the importance of collaboration between civil society and the private sector in safeguarding the emerald sea.

"Partnerships between the government, non-profit institutions and the private sector can lead to joint projects that preserve the marine environment, enhancing Qatar’s appeal as a responsible tourist destination with a thriving ecosystem,” he added.

Engineer Osama Kayed, a specialist in marine geology, shed light on the significance of scientific research in understanding the growing environmental impacts on the seas and oceans.

He called for supporting research and continuous monitoring of marine environmental changes to make informed decisions that preserve the marine environment for future generations.

Highlighting the vital role of oceans and seas in sustaining life on earth, Eng Kayed stressed the importance of investing in marine research and technology, adding that such investments not only protect the marine environment but also strengthen the marine economy and contribute to sectors like fishing, marine agriculture and tourism, improving society’s quality of life.

"Qatar’s marine treasures are a haven for visitors and nature enthusiasts, playing a crucial role in preserving biodiversity and the surrounding environment,” he said. "The exploration of the emerald sea and its islands reflects the country’s dedication to sustainable tourism and environmental consciousness. These unique marine resources make Qatar one of the most extraordinary and beautiful sea destinations in the region.”

Qatar’s marine treasures hold a wealth of ecological significance and their preservation is integral to maintaining the delicate balance of marine ecosystems.

The emerald sea serves as a sanctuary for a vast array of marine species, from vibrant coral reefs to majestic sea turtles and elusive marine mammals. These diverse habitats contribute to the overall health of the oceans, acting as breeding grounds, feeding areas and shelter for countless marine organisms.

The commitment to sustainable tourism and environmental consciousness in Qatar extends beyond just protecting its natural assets. The country actively engages in efforts to combat climate change and reduce its carbon footprint.

By investing in renewable energy and sustainable practices, Qatar demonstrates a comprehensive approach to addressing environmental challenges and securing a sustainable future for its marine wonders.

As a testament to its dedication, Qatar actively participates in international collaborations and initiatives focused on marine conservation. By sharing knowledge and resources with other nations, Qatar contributes to global efforts aimed at safeguarding marine biodiversity and preserving the world’s oceans for generations to come.
