The fisheries department of the Ministry of Municipality has released 26,000 grouper fishlings into the Qatari waters off the coast of Al-Fashut in Al Wakra as part of a breeding programme to increase Qatar's fish stock.
The fishlings, each weighing around 40 grams now, were artificially bred, hatched and reared through the early stages of growth at the Aquatic Fisheries Research Centre in Ras Matbhak, its head, Ibrahim Salman Al Mohannadi, said.
Since last year, around 1.2 million fishlings hatched at the centre have been released into the Qatari waters.
