Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah was elected as the chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) on Wednesday.
She will fill the position vacated by HE Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Smaikh Al Marri, who has been appointed as the Minister of Labour in last week’s Cabinet reshuffle.
Attiyah said she would work to continue the great legacy of NHRC by ensuring that it remained at the top among its counterparts across the world and by striving to do more in terms of human rights achievements.
She said chairing the NHRC was a great responsibility that requires cooperation of all national institutions to ensure the advancement of human dignity in Qatar.
Attiyah said she would make the “greatest effort” and “harness the utmost energies” to assume this national and humanitarian responsibility.
