THE Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has confirmed the incorrect report being circulated through social media on the emergence of a disease called 'SOL' transmitted by smoking shisha.
In a press release on Sunday, the ministry said that there is no basis for a disease called 'SOL', stressing that what has been circulated recently is"completely false and a baseless rumour".
The MoPH warned that all forms of tobacco are harmful and can cause many diseases, including cancer.
Smoking shisha can cause many diseases and provide a fertile environment for the spread of transitional diseases among its users such as TB and hepatitis if health procedures approved by health authorities in the state are not respected, it added.
The Ministry of Health called on users of social media to verify the accuracy of the information source before posting them and to review the official competent sources, stressing that it is the sole body within Qatar, which is responsible to announce diseases and issue any health warning.
