AS the unjust and inhumane economic blockade imposed by some GCC countries on the State of Qatar nears two months, voices of support for Qatar and the Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani are being heard even overseas now.
The symbolic show of solidarity with Qatar and its leadership are being held in villages across the South Indian state of Kerala.
Indian residents of Qatar who are currently on vacation are putting up copies of the iconic 'Tamim Al Majd' mural created by Qatari artist Ahmed bin Majed al Maadheed in their respective villages to show their full-fledged support to Qatar and its demand for justice.
For example, members of different expatriate organisations have installed the 'Tamim Al Majd' image at public places in Nanmanda and Ezhukulam in Kozhikode district in Kerala, which is attracting a large number of people and the local media.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, a member of one of the forums in Doha said:"Our members who are currently on vacation have installed the 'Tamim Al Majd' portrait in their respective villages, which has evoked tremendous local support including of those who are not linked directly to Qatar."
He added:"As Kozhikode has a strong representation among Indian expatriate population in Qatar, their families also keep a watch on the developments in Qatar."
Members of another cultural organisation called 'Nanmanda Expatriate Sangham in Qatar' are circulating the events being organised in Kerala to show solidarity with Qatar widely through social media. The members of the forum including Shaju Abhayam, TP Salam, KK Shabir, EK Ameer, Vidhyasagar, KK Shaji, VP Riyas and Minju Milash also organised an event to show solidarity with Qatar and its leadership recently.
"The general public in Kerala is aware of the blockade imposed on Qatar by its neighbouring countries and it is a key topic of discussion at every family function. Recently, we distributed a number of 'Tamim Al Majd' stickers that we had brought from Qatar to the visitors at a reception of one of our members, and all of whom pasted it on their cars in a gesture of support," an office bearer of the forum Shahul Hameed said.
It is worth mentioning here that image of 'Tamim Al Majd' displayed on a row of vehicles at a public function in Kollam district of Kerala has already gone viral on social media.
"We hope that the image of the iconic 'Tamim Al Majd' will adorn many roads of Kerala villages in near future to mark our solidarity with Qatar. We are committed to stand for justice and for Qatar," Hameed added.
