The Ashoka Hall of the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) was bristling with enthusiasm as the ICBF Independence Day programme, ‘Bharat Azadi Ke Rang 2023’, unfolded on August 18. The event, designed to commemorate India’s independence, proved to be a resounding success, captivating the hearts of all who attended.
The venue was overflowing with attendees so captivated that finding standing space was a rarity. What set this event apart was its emphasis on blue-collar employees. The event saw massive participation from workers in various locations such as Raslaffan, Messaied, Dhukhan, Al Khore, and the Industrial Area, highlighting their steadfast engagement with ICBF.
Spanning three hours, the cultural extravaganza was a testament to the rich diversity of Indian heritage. The evening kicked off at 6pm with a vibrant array of songs and dances. The chief guest of the evening, Ambassador of India to Qatar HE Vipul, and ICBF coordinating officer and First Secretary of Indian Embassy Dr Vaibhav Tandale, graced the occasion.
Varkey Boban, general secretary of ICBF and programme convenor, delivered the welcome speech. ICBF President Shanavas Bava took the stage to shed light on the significance of celebrating Independence Day on a Friday, the designated day-off in Qatar, stressing the importance of providing blue-collar employees with an opportunity to take part in the festivities.
HE Vipul addressed the audience, emphasizing the unity prevailing among the Indian community in Qatar. He highlighted the diverse representation within the packed hall, reflecting the myriad cultures and regions of India.
Distinguished personalities including ICC President AP Manikantan, ISC President EP Abdularahiman and Pravasi Bharathi Samman awardee Hassan Chougle, alongside other community leaders, families and individuals from all corners of the Indian community filled the hall with vibrant colours and energy.
In recognition of their support, sponsors and participants were honoured with mementos and certificates by the India ambassador.
ICBF Secretary TK Muhamed Kunhi delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude for the collaborative effort that made the event a reality. The meticulously organized programme was orchestrated by Programme Convenor Varkey Boban with significant support from Managing Committee members Muhamed Kunhi,Kuldeep Kour Bahl, Zareena Ahad, Sameer Ahamed, Shankar Goud, Kulwinder Singh, Abdul Raoof Kondotty and Hamid Raza, along with ICBF Advisory CouncilChairman SAM Basheer, members Harish Kanjani, Arun Kumar, Shashidar Hebbal and T Ramaselvam.
The event seamlessly showcased the diversity and unity that define the spirit of India, in which cultural programmes were well coordinated by ISC Secretary Pradeep Pillai.
