DOHA: The Public Works Authority – Ashghal has announced the completion of the second package of the Roads Development Project and the infrastructure in the Al Jahhaniya area, north of the Mall of Qatar, which began in the second quarter of 2020.
Through the project, an integrated infrastructure was established that provides advanced services and an internal street network that enhances the flow of traffic and provides connectivity with public facilities in the region.
The second package of the project is located in the area north of the Mall of Qatar, specifically west of Al Riffa Street and east of Al Mazroua Road, and bordered to the south by Naqa Al Sahla Street.
On the details of the project, Eng Fahd Muhammad Al Otaibi, Head of the Western Regions Section in the Roads Projects Department at Ashghal, stated that the project serves about 851 housing plots for citizens’ lands in Rawdat Al Jahaniyya area, and the works that have been implemented have achieved extensive improvements in the area in line with population growth. It provides an internal local road network linking the area with the existing main road network and public facilities in it, in addition to raising the level of traffic safety on the roads, as well as the development of infrastructure services.
Eng Al Otaibi added that the project included the development and construction of a road network of 21km in length, in addition to 3.6km of lanes for pedestrians and bicycles, with the provision of traffic safety elements such as street lighting systems and poles, directional signs, and road signs, in addition to providing 3,660 parking spaces.
A 21-kilometre surface and groundwater drainage network hasbeen constructed and linked to a water collection reservoir in order to reduce water accumulation during the rainy season, and a 2.7-kilometre treated water network to serve future green areas, in addition to the construction and extension of new sewage pipes with a length of 18 kilometres, connecting them to the main sewage network. With the aim of improving the quality of life in the region and eliminating the use of septic tanks for homes.
He pointed out that local materials and manufacturers were relied upon for most of the project’s work, as the Qatari local sources were relied upon to supply materials and elements such as gabbro, street lighting poles and lamps, directional signs, sewage pipes, rainwater drainage pipes, asphalt layers, and prefabricated manholes, in addition to concrete and iron. Reinforcement, as the percentage of the local component reached 70 percent of the project’s work, in the context of the Public Works Authority’s support for local manufacturers and the ‘Ta’heel’ initiative launched by the authority in 2017.
