President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay Luis Lacalle Pou has affirmed his country's keenness to enhance economic cooperation with Qatar and establish long-term commercial partnerships with it, thanks to the capabilities of the two countries.

During his meeting with a number of Qatari businessmen on Sunday, the Uruguayan president said that he seeks to strengthen bilateral relations, especially in the economic field, praising the development witnessed by Qatar in infrastructure and in various fields.

He pointed out that Uruguay will offer many investment incentives for Qatari investors who are willing to invest in his country, assuring that his country is interested to strengthen trading cooperation with Qatar and that there are enormous potentials and strong desire from both parties to forge long-term commercial partnerships.

The president also noted that Uruguay and Qatar enjoy a common interest in boosting the food security sector, affirming that there are substantial opportunities for cooperation between them in this sector, especially that Uruguay owns a developed infrastructure and ports, in addition to advanced technologies in the field of food production.For his part, First Vice-Chairman of Qatar Chamber Mohamed bin Twar Al Kuwari hoped the meeting would establish a new phase of cooperation between the two countries in economic and commercial fields, noting that despite the close relations and signed agreements between them their trade exchange is still weak.

He underscored the importance of exchanging mutual visits and trade delegations and information between both sides to develop their trade volume.

Al Kuwari called on Qatari companies and their counterparts from Uruguay to open new channels of economic cooperation to explore investment opportunities available in both countries in various sectors and cooperate in forging joint investment enterprises and commercial alliances whether in Qatar or Uruguay, pointing to the enormous potential both countries own and their attractive investment climate.

He emphasized the Qatar Chamber's support for enhancing cooperation between business sectors in both countries in all fields, stressing the interest of Qatari investors to get acquainted with the investment opportunities available in Uruguay and broaden cooperation horizons with the Uruguayan private sector.

Elaborating on the competitiveness of Qatar market, he said that it is promising market and offers a wide range of investment opportunities for Uruguayan investors. He pointed out that there are many sectors in which both sides can cooperate in such as retail, agriculture, food security, trading, sports, tourism, services, infrastructure, and other sectors.

For his part, QC board member Abdulrahman Al Ansari invited Qatari businessmen to get acquainted with the opportunities presented by the Uruguayan party, indicating that there are numerous fields in which both sides can cooperate in such as the food sector.

Director-General for International Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay Victoria Francolino said that there are talks to increase bilateral cooperation and coordination regarding the signing of cooperation agreements between the chambers of commerce in the two countries, in addition to efforts to launch an online platform that brings together businessmen from both sides to discuss mutual partnerships.
