Qatar's Ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus HE Ali Yousef Al Mulla, in the presence of President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, inaugurated the new embassy building of Qatar in Nicosia and raised the flag of Qatar, on the occasion of the upcoming National Day of the state.
During the opening ceremony, the official announcement was made to change the name of the street in which the Qatari embassy building is located to "Qatar Street", and the park adjacent to the embassy building was called "Doha Garden".
The ceremony was attended by Anita Demetriou, President of the Cypriot Parliament, a number of ministers, heads of parties and diplomatic missions accredited to the Republic of Cyprus, in addition to representatives of civil society and businessmen.
In a speech, the Cypriot president said the political and economic relations between Cyprus and Qatar have witnessed continuous growth during the past years.
He explained that the volume of investment in this luxurious building of the embassy of Qatar is a proof of the depth of the partnership between the two countries.
He added, "There is no better evidence of synergy - which can be built on - than the contract between Qatar Energy and ExxonMobil to continue work in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus (field 10) and, more recently, work in field (5)."
The Cypriot president expressed his country's support for deepening relations between the European Union and Qatar in addition to the European Union and the GCC states.
"We see the advantages of partnership and the importance of coordinating with Qatar and the GCC in common challenges."
In her speech, the Speaker of the Cypriot House of Representatives stressed the strength of the Cypriot-Qatari relations, adding that the opening of the new Qatari embassy building in the capital, Nicosia, is a proof of that.
For his part, Charalambos Petrides, Minister of Defense of Cyprus, praised the relations between Qatar and Cyprus, and pointed out the possibility of Qatar's contribution to establishing stability, peace and achieving prosperity and prosperity for the peoples of the region through cooperation on the basis of the principles of the United Nations, international law and the sovereignty of states.
For his part, Ambassador Al Mulla considered that the opening of the new embassy building of Qatar and the naming of the street on which the embassy building is located (Qatar Street) and the adjacent park (Doha Park) are a clear translation of the level of strong relations between Qatar and Cyprus, expressing his hope that the headquarters of the new mission is a symbol of cooperation between the two countries.
He thanked the government in the Republic of Cyprus and the municipality of Strovolos in Nicosia, noting that they provided all means of assistance to the embassy in order to name the street and the park.
