Europe’s Ryder Cup team won’t have any German player after captain Luke Donald picked the final line-up for the 44th edition of the tournament on Monday.

He distributed the last six places in the team to Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose (both England), Sepp Straka (Austria), Shane Lowry (Ireland), Nicolai Hojgaard (Denmark) and Ludvig Aberg (Sweden).

Germany’s Yannick Paul narrowly missed out a direct qualification and was not considered by Donald.

Six players qualified automatically - the three leading players on the European Points List followed by the three leading players on the World Points List. These were Rory McIlroy (Norther Ireland), Masters winner Jon Rahm (Spain), Robert MacIntyre (Scotland), Viktor Hovland (Norway), Tyrell Hatton and Matt Fitzpatrick (both England).

Europe will attempt to regain the Ryder Cup from the United States in Rome following a record 19-9 defeat in Wisconsin in 2021. The Ryder Cup takes place from September 25 to October 1 in Rome.

World number one Scottie Scheffler, PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka, US Open champion Wyndham Clark and Open Championship winner Brian Harman are among the players in the US team.
