THE Qur'anic Botanic Garden (QBG), in collaboration with the women's branch of Sheikh Eid Bin Mohammed Al Thani Charitable Association (Eid Charity), recently hosted students from Eid Charity's Girls Summer Club, as part of its ongoing 2017 Ghars Campaign activities, which encourage students to preserve and nurture the environment in Qatar.
QBG organised a range of activities for the students over two days at Oxygen Park in Education City, which included interactive educational games, mazes, puzzles and cultural activities highlighting plant life and the environment. As part of QBG's focus on agriculture and planting, the students were given tips on planting seeds and caring for plants, and planted tree seeds by hand.
Commenting on the workshop, Fatma Saleh al Khulaifi, Project Manager at QBG, said:"We are delighted to be working with Eid Charity for the second consecutive year. The workshops and activities provided by QBG proved a huge success for the participating students, who all enjoyed their time at Oxygen Park."
Ameena Ma'arfya, General Manager, women's branch of Eid Charity, expressed her delight with the visit, which she said helped children learn about the health benefits of the plants, fruits and trees mentioned in the Holy Qur'an, through technical workshops and various interactive games.
She added that the women's branch intends to strengthen community partnerships that support the upbringing of current generations.
Since it was initiated in 2011, the Ghars Campaign has targeted multiple segments of society in Qatar, promoting the 'greening' of cities and the protection of the environment, especially in a dry climate like in Qatar. The campaign aims to enhance the local environment by planting 2,022 trees through various activities throughout the year in support of Qatar's hosting of the FIFA 2022 World Cup.
QBG, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), seeks to promote student and community participation and to raise public awareness of the importance of agriculture in Qatar to support QF's commitment to sustainable development and environmental responsibility.
