THE Ministry of Education and Higher Education will launch the Back to School campaign for academic year 2017-2018, under the theme 'With Knowledge We Build Qatar' on Thursday.
Announcing this at a press conference in Doha on Tuesday, the Director of Public Relations and Communications at the ministry Hassan Abdullah al Mohammedi said that the campaign, which will last until September 10, is being organised in collaboration with QNB, Mall of Qatar and Kidzmondo.
The press conference was also attended by the General Manager of Kidzmondo Doha Dr Eman Baker Abu El Hawa.
Mohammedi said:"The preparations for the new academic year have been going on smoothly and have not been affected by the blockade in any way."
Mohammedi added that Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) will also participate in the campaign through the Health First programme for the second consecutive year pointing out that the support and sponsorship of the partners of this campaign confirms their commitment to social responsibilities and their prominent role in serving the community.
"The Back to School campaign aims to prepare students, parents and the community in general, to receive the new school year and prepare for it actively and vigorously, especially after spending a long summer vacation. The campaign reminds the community of its responsibilities and commitments in order to participate in a successful and productive school year, through various awareness and recreational programmes aimed at students and their parents," he further said.
He stressed on the great role played by families in preparing students for the new academic year by motivating them to compete with their peers at their schools through various activities reflecting positively on their level of performance and academic achievement,"which grant them access to the best educational and professional opportunities offered by our beloved country Qatar to our children".
"We are pleased to participate in the Ministry of Education and Higher Education's Back to School campaign for the second year in a row as part of our Health First campaign, launched six years ago," said WCM-Q's Chief Executive Officer Nisreen al Rifai.
She added:"Our participation aims at educating school students about the importance of healthy physical education, in addition to the methods of preventing obesity and its resulting diseases."
Rifai noted that with the increase of obesity in Qatar, especially among school children, the awareness activities had to be intensified."Five years ago, we distributed greenhouses to schools and provided them with seeds and soil to instil the importance of eating vegetables and fruits in the minds of students who responded positively to the project, planting, picking and eating fresh and organic products," she concluded.
Dr Eman said:"Kidzmondo Doha is delighted to be participating in the Back to School campaign under the patronage of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education that shares our commitment to the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030, especially in meeting its main focus of human development and encouraging self-awareness, creativity and innovation using entertaining educational methods."
The Back to School campaign includes many recreational and awareness activities, involving early education departments, information systems, health and safety, and visual arts, in addition to activities targeting students with special needs. The ministry's pavilion will introduce students and their parents to the various services on offer. Gifts will be distributed as well.
