Former double champions FC Barcelona will launch the 2017 edition of the IHF Super Globe Men's Club Handball Championship at the Duhail Complex on August 25 when they clash with African representative Esperance Sportive de Tunisie Esperance.
The Spanish side, which won the title in 2013 and 2014, entered the championship as wild card and set the ball rolling in the first quarter-final.
Other participating teams in the fray are hosts and former winners Al Sadd Club (Qatar), double defending champions F'fcchse Berlin (Germany), Naft O Gas Gachsaran (Iran), HC Vardar Skopje (Macedonia), Sydney University Handball Club (Australia) and EC Pinheiros (Brazil).
On the first day, the second quarter-final will pitch Vardar against Naft O Gas, while Fuchse Berlin will take on Pinheiros and Al Sadd are scheduled to battle against Sydney University in the fourth quarter-finals.

Qatar youth handball
The Qatar Handball Association (QHA) also announced the schedule of the Qatar Men's Youth International Friendly Handball Championship, to be staged on the sidelines of the 2017 IHF Super Globe.
The championship has attracted Oman, Iran and hosts Qatar.
The opening match will be held on Friday in which Iran will clash against Oman.
The Qatari squad consists of Hassanain Aziz, Ahmad Mohammad al Sulaiti, Jassim Jabor al Sulaiti, Ahmad Abdullah al Kharousi, Belal bin Masoud, Talal Mohammad al Darwish, Hamad Mohammad al Saadi, Saifaldin Nasser Salim, Khalid Saif, Ibrahim al Hitmi, Nasser Mohammad al Kebaisi, Ali Medhat Abdulhadi, Hassan Basheer Mohammad, Abdullah Mohammad al Sharqawi, Abdulrahman Maher Hassan, Abdullah al Dosari and Thenyan Khalifa.
Nawaf in quarters
Qatar's Rashed Nawaf qualified to the singles quarter-finals of the Arab U13-14 Tennis Championship in Hammamet, Tunisia.
In the second round of the event, Nawaf defeated Ahmad Hesham of Egypt 6-0 6-2.
Rashed Nawaf teamed up with Ibrahim al Sulaiti to enter the quarter-finals of doubles event after their 6-1 6-1 victory over an Algeria duo.
Nasser al Yafai and Abdulaziz Zainal also cruised into the last eight stage of the doubles event.
