Qatar Press Center (QPC), in collaboration with the Media Development Department at the Qatar Media Corporation (QMC), is organising a training course titled ‘Political Journalism Analysis’.

The course will be presented by Dr Abdullah Khalifa Al Shaigi, professor of political science at the University of Kuwait, and it will be attended by a group of journalists, media professionals, opinion writers and columnists.

Sheikh Khaled bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, director of Media Development Department, pointed out that this course is being launched in partnership with Qatar Press Center to equip the participants with the necessary tools for political analysis, which are crucial skills that journalists and professionals in the media field should acquire, as they play a significant role in increasing awareness and enhancing their communication skills with the media.

He said, "We have been keen in maintaining diversity in the selection of participants from various media sectors, including newspapers, radio, television, Qatar News Agency and social media activists.”

Sheikh Khaled stressed that he is proud of the role played by Qatar Press Center in contributing to the development of journalism and media.

He emphasised that there will be more future collaborations between the Media Development Department and the centre in terms of such courses and other activities.

Dr Shaigi pointed out that political analysis requires unconventional skills that anyone working in media or dealing with it should acquire, stressing that this is especially important because politicians are often known to say a lot without revealing much.

"Accordingly, it is necessary for every journalist or opinion writer to have the necessary skills to understand what is happening, decipher the facts behind the words, and interpret political stands,” he said.

He added that this five-day course will provide participants with insights that will illuminate their path in political analysis, boosting their confidence in addressing issues on television or at the media platforms in general.

Sadeq Mohamed Al Amari, general director of Qatari Press Center, said the Political Journalism Analysis course aims to refine the skills of participants and provide them with the information needed to read the news from different angles.

He added that it will help them uncover the subtleties of events, political statements and understand the crises and transformations in our regional and global milieu.

He also highlighted that the course instructor is considered one of the political experts in the region and has made significant contributions to event analysis, adding that he is well-informed about the dynamics of Washington and is an expert in US-GCC relations.

He also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Media Development Department at the Qatar Media Corporation for its cooperation with Qatari Press Center.
