President of the United States of America Joe Biden has expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for effective role in the process of release offive American citizens, who were detained in Iranian prisons,in exchange for the release of several Iranians detained by the United States.

"I give special thanks to the Amir of Qatar and to the Sultan of Oman, both of whom helped facilitate this agreement over many months of difficult and principled American diplomacy,” Biden said in a statement issued by the White House.

"I am grateful to our partners at home and abroad for their tireless efforts to help us achieve this outcome, including the Governments of Qatar, Oman, Switzerland, and South Korea,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi announced that five citizens of the United States of America who were detained in the prisons of the Islamic Republic of Iran are on their way to Doha International Airport after they have been released in exchange for the release of several detainees of the Islamic Republic of Iran held by the US, as part of an agreement between the two countries mediated by Qatar.

Dr Al Khulaifi added that as part of the implementation of the agreement, the Iranian frozen funds in the Republic of Korea were transferred to Doha accordingly. He said Qatar will commence the activation of the humanitarian financial channel.

He considered the implementation of this agreement an indicative of the status of the State of Qatar as a trusted international partner in mediation field and a vindication of confidence of all parties in Qatar’s neutrality and impartiality. It also represents a new success to be further added to the remarkable successes of Qatari diplomacy in several regional and international files.

Dr Al Khulaifi expressed Qatar’s hope that the full implementation of the agreement between the United States and Iran will lead to greater understandings that include return to the joint and inclusive action plan.

He reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to supporting all regional and international efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the region.
