SOUQ Waqif Doha is witnessing large crowds of families, friends and children to take part in a host of events organised by the Souq for Eid Al Adha celebrations.
The events are designed for visitors of all age groups and attracted many residents and tourists on the first two days of Eid Al Adha celebrations on Friday and Saturday.
A large air-conditioned tent featuring a variety of entertaining games is the centre of attraction for children at Souq Waqif where they can have fun and at the same time win gifts and free goodies. The tent also offers families a cozy indoor atmosphere where they can relax, away from the summer heat.
Souq Waqif centre esplanade, which is famous for its multi-ethnic restaurants and caf`s offering a wide choice of multi-cultural cuisines, bustles with intense activity.
Another attraction for the visitors is the birds' section at the Souq. The diverse chirping of the caged birds emanating from the section is too tempting for a passerby to ignore, who invariably peeps into the section to find not only colourful birds but also some pet animals.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, a bird seller Ibrahim Bukhari said,"Sale of birds has picked up this Eid with plenty of customers around. Demands for parrots and cats have particularly increased significantly."
Farookh, a tailor said,"It has been a hectic Eid for us because of large number of customers seeking clothes ahead of Eid. In fact, I got more orders than I could handle and had to refuse a few customers."
According to goldsmith Saleem al Jodha, with most locals deciding to spend Eid in Qatar, the sales were better compared to last year."Demand for jewellery and gold increased considerably last week for Eid, which also marks the beginning of the marriage season."
Qatari visitor Abdullah Qassim al Salah said,"I thank organisers for having such a nice show. It's a perfect place for families and children to celebrate Eid. It offers everything that people look for at such events, including stalls for face painting, henna painting and games, shops and eateries. It makes a great family outing."
