Tribune News NetworkDohaRoads in Qatar are getting safer by the year as traffic accident fatalities declined by roughly half by the end of 2021, according to the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA).In the November edition of PSA’s monthly report featuring statistics of December, the authority said traffic deaths in December 2021 saw a decline of 47.6 percent from that in December 2020 and 21.4 percent from that in November 2021.The period also saw Qatar's population edging down by a bit. In December 2021, Qatar's population stood at 2.684 million, 7,000 people fewer than what was recorded a year ago. Another prominent change in this issue is the rise in the total number of ships arriving at Qatar ports and the increase in net tonnage at a monthly rate of 8.5% and 52.0%, respectively (compared to November 2021), and at an annual rate of 0.3% and 5.1%, respectively (compared to December 2020).The total number of registered new vehicles during December 2021 has reached 7,212. The figure showed a monthly increase of 4.8% and an annual increase of 23.8%.
