HANGZHOU: The Hangzhou Asian Games witnessed another remarkable triumph for Qatar as Mohammed Al Garni clinched the gold medal in the men's 1500m event on Sunday. This victory marks Qatar's second gold at the games.

In an impressive display of athleticism, India's Ajay Kumar Saroj and Jinson Johnson secured the silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the same event.

After his historic win, Al Garni expressed his pride, saying, "I am proud of this honourable achievement. I am happy to see the culmination of the efforts I have put in over the past period by winning a gold medal, and I hope it will motivate me to achieve even greater success in the future."

He went on to share his gratitude, stating, "Winning gold is a wonderful thing. I won't deny that I hoped to secure a medal, but I did not anticipate winning the gold. I am thankful to God for this achievement and extend my appreciation to everyone who supported me. I am now fully committed to preparing for the upcoming Olympics, with the hope of adding an Olympic medal to Qatar's impressive list of sporting achievements."

Meanwhile, Qatar also added another accolade to its growing medal count with the 3x3 basketball team earning a silver medal. In a closely contested final, Qatar narrowly lost to Chinese Taipei with a final score of 16-18.

As of now, Qatar boasts an impressive medal tally at the Asian Games, with two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.
