TASHKENT: Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Uzbekistan HE Hassan bin Hamza Hashim stressed that the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan HE Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Doha reflects the strength of the relations between the two countries.

In remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), His Excellency said the basis of these relations lies in the religious, civilized, and cultural ties, as well as common values and principles, adding that the desires of the leaders of the two nations in upgrading bilateral relations have been the starting point of the results that are materializing today.

He pointed out that the visit of HE President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Doha comes in response to the invitation from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to attend the opening ceremony of the Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha in which the Republic of Uzbekistan participates with its agricultural products.

He outlined that it will be the first visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Qatar since his assumption of the presidency in his country, explaining that such high-level visits underscore the solid of relations between the two nations.

The Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Uzbekistan indicated that the visit would witness holding the official session of talks between HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and HE President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to discuss bilateral ties and avenues to support and upgrade them, in addition to regional and international issues of common concern, chief among which are issues of international security and peace.

The cooperation prospects with the Republic of Uzbekistan are multiple and countless, and there are agreements and memorandums of understanding that will be signed during the visit, in addition to numerous future projects with the Republic of Uzbekistan which are currently being considered by the two sides, the Ambassador said.

His Excellency described the visit of HH the Amir to Samarkand on June 5 and 6, 2023, as exceptional and historic since it was the first visit of His Highness to the Republic of Uzbekistan, in addition to the fact that His Highness was the first Arab state leader to be welcomed by HE the President in the historic Samarkand city. The visit witnessed the first meeting of the two leaders, in addition to an official session of talks to further discuss issues of common concern, particularly regional and international issues, as well as discussing cooperation prospects between the two nations.

He added that the visit culminated in the signing of 15 agreements, a memorandum of understanding and a cooperation program that included multiple fields ranging from political, economic, and trade to investment, cultural, religious, and educational, as well as youth and sports. They also comprised energy, industry, agriculture, food security and others, as the success of the visit had a profound impact on the evolution of the relations between the two countries in a variety of fields.

The Ambassador of the State of Qatar in Tashkent described the ties with the Republic of Uzbekistan as very important since Uzbekistan is a centre of power in Central Asia, and there is a concurrence in multiple perspectives with respect to regional and international issues. He added that the cooperation prospects are open in all fields, affirming that the ties between the two countries can be bolstered and upgraded to be morphed into the level of partnerships and strategic relations.

Concerning the presence of the President of Uzbekistan at the opening ceremony of Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha, the Ambassador outlined that Uzbekistan's participation in this event offers a significant opportunity to showcase agricultural products and investment opportunities in this field, considering the fact that Uzbekistan is an agricultural state, and the exportation of agricultural products represents one of the most important income sources for the country.

He also touched on the future projects and investments between the two nations, pointing out that Nebras Power QPSC currently has two existing projects on the Uzbek territories and operates in the energy field, along with numerous others under discussion.

Soon, His Excellency said, projects in many fields are anticipated to be established, including trade, economic and investment exchange, as well as tourism, culture, youth and sports, industry, agriculture, livestock and other vital fields of common interest.
