DOHA: His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani graced the opening ceremony of the Expo 2023 Doha Horticultural Exhibition, under the slogan ‘Green Desert, Better Environment’, on Monday evening at the exhibition site in Al Bidda Park.
Also present were the President of the United Arab Emirates HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan HE Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Djibouti HE Ismail Omar Guelleh, President of the United Republic of Tanzania HE Samia Suluhu Hassan, Prime Minister of the Republic of DjiboutiHE Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed,Prime Minister of Iraq HE Muhammad Shiaa Al Sudani, Prime Minister of the Republic of Yemen HE Dr Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed, and Prime Minister of the Republic of Rwanda HE Dr Edward Ngirente.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the national anthem was played, and then a short film entitled ‘Green Qatar’ was shown.
Then Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani delivered a speech in which he said that the State of Qatar’s hosting of the Expo 2023 Doha Horticultural Exhibition is consistent with its commitments to sustainable development nationally and internationally, pointing out that it constitutes a qualitative addition to the various initiatives adopted by Qatar to ensure a safer and more stable future for all peoples of the Earth.
His Excellency noted that these initiatives come under the directives of His Highness the Amit, within the framework of achieving a balance between the development needs of the State of Qatar and the protection of its natural resources on land, sea and air, in order to achieve its national vision for the year 2030, one of whose pillars is the development of a comprehensive environmental vision. It places at its top priority the preservation of the environment for future generations.
His Excellency also said that at a time when humanity is afflicted with many unfortunate disasters and calamities resulting from our lack of respect for our planet and the irresponsible depletion of nature, we look forward during this world exhibition to serious initiatives and partnerships that restore hope to us and to future generations in a world full of a safe life that we seek for all its inhabitants without discrimination or discrimination.
His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs renewed the call for more innovative, environmentally friendly solutions and innovations in all aspects of life that take a realistic approach concerned with comprehensive economic development and environmental protection, while at the same time ensuring equitable energy security for all.
At the end of his speech, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani expressed his thanks to all the countries and friends who joined the exhibition, hoping that its work would result in partnerships and projects that would benefit future generations.
Dimitri Kirkentziser, Secretary General of the International Bureau of Exhibitions, and Leonardo Capitaño, President of the International Association of Horticultural Producers, also spoke on this occasion.
The ceremony was attended by HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, the personal representative of the Amir.
Also present were HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, Speaker of the Shura Council, a number of Their Excellencies sheikhs and ministers, Their Excellencies ministers, representatives of brotherly and friendly countries, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the state, and a number of senior businessmen and guests of the exhibition.
