The Ministry of Public Health has warned consumers from buying or using infant formula milk products of US-based Abbott Laboratories (Similac Human Milk Fortifier, Elecare, Elecare JR) due to the possibility of contamination of some batches of these products with Salmonella and Chronobacter bacteria. It recommended consumers to avoid consuming it in order to preserve the health of their children.
The ministry said it took the necessary precautionary measures as soon as it received a notification from the international network of food safety officials (Infosan) regarding potentially contaminated baby milk powder products. The precautionary measures included withdrawing and preventing the sale of these products and referring samples of them for laboratory analysis, and measures were taken to withdraw samples of similar imported products. The ministry points out that the places for distributing suspected contaminated products were limited due to the nature of these products.
The ministry states that no disease cases related to these products have been recorded in the country.

The first two digits of the product codes range from (22 to 37).
Production date 01 November 2020, expiry date 01 April 2022 or later.
MoCI recalls products
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in cooperation with Ahmed Khalil Al Baker & Sons, dealer of Similac products in Qatar, has announced the recall of Similac Baby Milk: ELECARE JR 400G batch number 18906220 - 22214220 - 24531220 -30391220 – 347722201barcode 070074116723, ELECARE 400G batch number 25557220 - 27930220 - 28130220 - 29266220 – 30384220 barcode 070074122502, and Human Milk Fortifier batch number 305132200 - 305212200 – 351122200 barcode 070074545998.
The Ministry would also like to point out that other products (Similac) in the local markets are not included in this alert and are safe for use.
The Ministry said the recall campaign comes within the framework of its ongoing efforts to protect consumers and ensure that dealers follow up on products’ defects.
