The Friends of the Environment Center of the Ministry of Culture on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Al Rayyan Municipality on the sidelines of the International Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha.
The MoU aims to strengthen environmental awareness of young people and upgrade their skills in the collective work dedicated to serving the environment through joint awareness activities, as well as encouraging them to conserve and protect the local environment from pollution.
The MoU primarily intends to develop skills that contribute to building affirmative behaviour in young people and training them to propagate eco-culture and highlighting the services provided by Al Rayyan Municipality in promoting eco-diversity, afforestation and decoration of public roads and parks.
Executive Director of the Friends of the Environment Center, Eng. Farhoud Hadi Al Hajri said that through participation in Doha Expo 2023, the MoU underscores the significance of building a young generation well-versed in the importance of environment conservation and shouldering the responsibility of its protection.
He pointed out that the MoU is set to promote young peoples’ knowledge to understand the issues that face environment through the provision of innovative activities and leveraging the technology and social media, engaging in eco activities and initiatives, as well as organizing sweeping campaigns, trees plantation and recycling.
Cooperation with Al Rayyan Municipality will obviously bolster innovation and eco entrepreneurship among young people, especially that they possess enormous capabilities and potential that should be leveraged in innovation, in addition to setting sustainable solutions for the environmental challenges, Eng. Al Hajri added, hoping such programs would generate a new generation of influential young people in the community to be holders of awareness mindsets for the service of the Qatari environment, as well as protecting its components.
Director-General of Al Rayyan Municipality, Jaber Hassan Al Jaber, said the MoU comes within the framework of the municipality’s quest for achieving the strategic objectives of the Ministry of Municipality, upgrading the services and preserving eco-friendly health cities, as well as activating partnership with a variety of institutions in the community, considering the comprehensive renaissance being witnessed by Qatar within the Qatar National Vision 2030 which set the environmental development as one of its core pillars.
The cooperation entails waste management and disposal through pursuing correct and effective methods with the essential provision of suitable containers, regulate waste collection to be further transferred to the relevant disposal centers, including recycling stations or landfills, he outlined, indicating that the cooperation will, likewise, promote the recycling culture among young people through the Friends of the Environment Center, in addition to providing recycling containers and holding awareness campaigns.
Al Jaber outlined that the cooperation primarily intends to increase the green spaces and provide open spaces for the public to enjoy the nature, optimize air quality and mitigate temperature, in addition to raising awareness on the importance of preserving public parks and green spaces and engaging the young people in programs that make balance between human needs and environment protection.
