The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), under the aegis of the Embassy of India in Qatar, conducted ICC Inter-school Dance Competition at ICC Ashoka Hall on October 13.

More than 100 students from 14 Indian schools participated in the event. The competition had solo performances in three classical dance forms -- Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniyattam -- and a group competition for Indian folk songs.

ICC had invited Dr. Gayathri Subramanian and Rekha Sathish, both well-recognised dancers, teachers and experienced judges, from India. Dr. Manisha Tandale, the wife of First Secretary of the Embassy of India, Dr. Vaibhav Tandale was the chief guest.

ICC’s Head of School Activities, Shantanu Deshpande, welcomed the audience, guests, judges and dignitaries.

A.P. Manikantan, president of ICC, said this competition was the realisation of a dream of the ICC managing committee. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest highlighted the need for society to have such competitions. Both the judges emphasised that participating in the event is more important than the win itself.

Subramanya Hebbagelu, vice president of ICC, conveyed the vote of thanks. Sumaa Gowda, head of cultural activities, anchored the event proceedings. PN Baburajan, ICC organising committee chairman, EP Abdul Rahman, president of ISC, Mohan Kumar, general secretary of ICC and other community leaders were in attendance. The Ashoka Hall was packed with students, parents, school coordinators and teachers as they witnessed some quality performances.

The winners were felicitated by the chief guest. All the participants were also given participation certificates by ICC.
