the General Directorate of Traffic has launched the first fleet of special vehicles equipped to train people with disabilities at Dalla Driving Academy.
The directorate also launched an iPad service, which enables trainees with disabilities to take the exam in the car without having to go to the examination rooms, allowing them to take the exam anywhere.
This initiative is the first of its kind in the region. It will integrate people with disabilities in society and protect their rights.
The launch of the special vehicles was attended by officials of Ministry if Interior (MoI) and experts in the field of disability.
Dalla Driving Academy is providing specialised training to driving instructors on skills to professionally deal with the disabled.
The cars are specially equipped to help the trainees drive without using their feet to apply brakes or accelerator. The car is equipped to conform to different forms of disabilities, and has signs to inform other road users that the vehicle is being driven by a person with disability. The trainees' personal cars will be customised after their training.
Hassan Nassar, Dallah Academy Manager, said the launch of the special training course is the result of the academy's cooperation with the MoI.
The officials explained through a presentation how the special vehicles are equipped to meet the needs of people with the most common forms of disabilities such as amputations of feet and hands, and short stature.
They assured that the courses will not have any extra fees.
