DOHA: The Qatar Meteorology Department has issued a warning about deteriorating weather conditions in southern areas, specifically regarding poor horizontal visibility due to mist and fog. The department's daily weather report has indicated that these conditions will persist until 6pm on Thursday.

The inshore weather forecast reveals that southern regions are currently experiencing misty to foggy conditions. These conditions will gradually transition from misty to foggy to relatively hot to hot as the day progresses, with the possibility of local cloud cover and potential rainfall. The abrupt changes in weather and visibility pose challenges to residents and travellers in these areas.

Offshore conditions are also not entirely clear, as the report suggests that there will be hazy periods with intermittent cloud cover. This could affect maritime activities and navigation.

In terms of wind patterns, the report outlines that inshore areas will experience variable winds initially. However, they will later become predominantly northeasterly to southeasterly, with wind speeds ranging from 5 to 15 knots and gusting to 25 knots at certain locations during the daytime. Offshore, the wind direction will shift from southwesterly to northwesterly initially and then become southeasterly to northeasterly, with wind speeds ranging from 3 to 13 knots.

Visibility is expected to be significantly reduced in southern areas, with a range of only 4 to 8 kilometers or even less in some locations due to the mist and fog. Such poor visibility conditions could result in hazards for motorists and require extra caution.

Sea conditions inshore are relatively calm, with a sea state of 1 to 2 feet, making it suitable for most marine activities. Offshore, the sea state is slightly more challenging, with waves reaching 1 to 3 feet, which might affect smaller boats and vessels.

The Meteorology Department advises residents and travellers to stay updated on weather forecasts and exercise caution when venturing out, especially in southern areas where visibility is significantly reduced. Mariners and sailors are also urged to be vigilant given the changing offshore conditions.

This warning serves as a reminder of the importance of being prepared for variable weather conditions and adhering to safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of all individuals in the region.
