Qatar's first fully-electric public bus route is now open, public transport company Mowasalat announced on Monday.
According to Mowasalat, all public buses plying the route between Al Ghanim Bus Station and City Center will be electric.
The development comes within in year after Qatar inaugurated a pilot operation of Mowasalat's electric bus charging station at Karwa, following the arrival of the first batch of the eco-friendly and quiet buses. It complements the electric vehicles strategy prepared by the Ministry of Transport in collaboration with the authorities concerned.
The electrification of the public transport system is part of Qatar's progress towards a green future. Achieving economic and environmental balance ensures the sustainability of transportation infrastructure projects, as well as the development of transportation through the use of alternative and clean energy in accordance with the latest global eco-friendly systems to reduce harmful carbon emissions, providing a clean, healthy and safe environment for future generations.
Mowasalat invests heavily to reduce carbon emissions from its conventional fleet, improving the quality of Qatar's climate and supporting Qatar’s transition away from a hydrocarbon-based economy towards a greener future.
