Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch celebrated her first tournament win on the WTA Tour by beating Romanian Elena Ruse 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the tournament in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, on Sunday. The 28-year-old converted her first match point after 1 hour 52 minutes for the biggest success of her career. Korpatsch will return to the top 100 in the world rankings at the beginning of next week. In the first set, Ruse had to have her foot treated at 3-3, after which Korpatsch managed the decisive break. Cheered on by the spectators, the Romanian fought for every point in the second set, but a confident Korpatsch still prevailed. (DPA)
