Hisham Aljundi
Doha
THE Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani patronised the graduation ceremony of Qatar University's (QU) 40th and the largest batch (2017) of male students, at Qatar National Convention Center in Doha on Tuesday morning.
The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani and a number of dignitaries.
Out of the 775 male students who graduated, 79 top rank holders had the privilege of receiving the honour from HH the Emir.
In his congratulatory remarks, QU President Dr Hassan al Derham said,"As we celebrate the graduation of this distinguished batch of students, our country is facing an obvious challenge - an unfair and illegal blockade by its neighbours. Qatar's reaction to the blockade has, however, revealed the country's able governance under HH the Emir."
Describing the role of QU during the crisis, he said:"We absorbed all those students who were unjustly deprived of pursuing their education in some universities in the blockading countries."
