A Qatari delegation from Primary Healthcare Corporation (PHCC) led by its Managing Director Dr Mariam Abdul Malik attended the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Conference held in Liverpool recently and also took part in the Dragons Den Competition.
The annual event brought together GPs and an impressive lineup of international speakers to showcase the latest clinical and policy developments in primary care.
The PHCC delegation included Dr Zelaikha al Wahedi, executive director of the Workforce Development & Training department; Dr Samya Ahmad al Abdulla, executive director of Operation Dept and Dr Wafa al Yousef.
PHCC submitted proposals for improving atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk documentation and consequent management among diabetic patients and improving physicians' adherence to completing vaccination schedules for patients with type 2 diabetes.
The international competition was designed to enhance the effectiveness of primary care, develop knowledge of best practice and make a difference internationally. The Qatari delegates competed against their colleagues to win the prize for best idea, by pitching ideas to RCGP 'Dragons' chaired by Dr Terry Kemple, RCGP president.
Dr Mohammed Salem presented the paper on 'Improving ASCVD Risk Documentation & Consequent Management among Diabetic Patients', a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. The proposal highlighted challenges including proper documentation of ASCVD score and its consequent management in the newly applied electronic medical records.
Dr Mohammed Salem said,"I am honoured to be part of a team that not only supports but works tirelessly to drive advancement in primary care."
The second submission by PHCC came from Dr Hassan Tawfik on 'Improving physician's adherence to completing vaccination schedules for patients with type 2 diabetes'.
Dr Tawfik commented,"We are working towards improving our services to our clients not only by providing excellent treatment but also by taking effective measures to prevent diseases such as diabetes and its complications, which cause big burden on our health system."
Dr Mariam Abdul Malik commented"We are delighted to be part of an international effort to enhance primary care globally. The Dragon Den competition is a great platform that enables professionals to share knowledge, in order to revolutionise primary care."
